Infrared sauna vs a normal sauna: which helps sore muscles?
A traditional sauna heats the air around you to a high temperature; far infrared warms your body directly at a lower air temperature. Many people find infrared gentler and easier to sit through. Both are used for relaxation and to ease muscle tension, and neither is a way to lose weight or a medical treatment.

How does a far infrared dome work?
A far infrared dome gives off radiant warmth that heats your body directly rather than the air. You lie down under the dome with your head outside, in a private room, so you get sauna-style warmth without steam, a hot cabin or a crowd. At Health Haven a dome session is a quiet, lying-down version of a sauna.
Because the warmth is radiant, the air in the room stays comfortable. Many people who find a traditional sauna too stifling are happier lying under a dome, with their head in cooler air.
Which is better for sore muscles?
There is no clear winner. Both bring warmth to tired muscles, which many people find relaxing, and the warmth is the benefit either way. Infrared is usually gentler because the air stays cooler, while a traditional sauna feels hotter and more intense. Choose the one you will enjoy and actually return to.
The best heat treatment is the one you can relax in. If you would rather lie down than sit upright, if you dislike steam, or if you want privacy, a dome suits you. If you love the intensity and ritual of a hot cabin, a traditional sauna may be your preference.
What does the research say about infrared saunas?
Research on far infrared saunas is limited and mostly small. One review of published studies found limited to moderate evidence for some effects, and no evidence that infrared saunas help you lose weight. So we offer it for comfort and relaxation, not as a medical treatment or a route to weight change.
You will see bold claims online about calories and the body flushing things out. We do not make them, because the evidence does not support them. What we can honestly say is that warmth is relaxing and many people enjoy the stillness of a session.
Who should check with a doctor first?
Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or a circulation disorder, or take medication that affects how you tolerate heat. Heat is not suitable for everyone. Tell us about any condition when you book, and we will say honestly if a dome session is not right for you.
Drink water before and after, and tell us at once if you feel dizzy or unwell during a session. A good session should feel warm and calming, never distressing.
What should I expect and bring to a dome session?
Wear light, comfortable clothing, drink water before and after, and expect to feel warm and probably to sweat. You lie down under the dome with your head outside, in a private room. Tell us at once if you feel dizzy, and mention any health condition when you book.
The warmth builds gradually, so there is no sudden heat. If it feels too much at any point, say so and the session can be adjusted or stopped.
Afterwards, take a few minutes before getting up, sip water and give yourself time to cool down.
Can I combine infrared with Synergie?
Yes. At Health Haven you can pair Far Infrared with Synergie vacuum massage in one visit, which costs less than booking each separately. The two do different jobs: Synergie works on the look of the skin and contours, while the dome is for warmth and relaxation. Choose the combination on the booking form.
If you are unsure which combination suits you, tick the option to let us suggest one when we confirm your booking.
